Study Permit
Canadian Study Permit
A Canadian student visa is a study permit issued for international students who intend to travel to Canada to study courses including language study, academic, professional or vocational training, and have stayed in Canada for more than 6 months. If you have planned to study in Canada, have applied for a good school and got a school admission permit/admission letter, then you need to start applying for a Canadian student visa (Study Permit).
Language requirements: None for primary and secondary schools; for colleges or universities, applicants must meet the admission requirements and provide proof of English proficiency.
Eligible institutions: All primary and secondary schools, colleges, or universities recognized by the Government of Canada.
Financial requirements: Proof of sufficient funds to cover study and living expenses in Canada is required.
Tuition payment requirements: Applicants must pay the tuition fees as required by the school and obtain an official letter of acceptance.
Processing time: 20-60 days
Study Permit Extension
The validity time of the visa will be marked on the Student visa (Study Permit). If the student has not completed the course before the visa expires and needs to continue his studies, the Canadian student visa must be extended before this deadline arrives. It may also be extended in the following circumstances:
Because of passport validity or other reasons, the original study permit was issued for a shorter period and is about to expire;
For various reasons, the time needed for study is longer than the validity of the original study permit, such as not completing studies on time, taking a break from studies, etc.;
The original program has been completed, but the student wishes to pursue another program—this applies to advancing to a higher level, transferring to a program at the same level, or switching to a lower-level program.
Students can start applying 3-6 months before the expiration of the student visa, and after submitting the application, they can continue to go to school normally until the extension is approved. If the visa has expired, you cannot continue to go to school, and you must apply for “restoration of status” within 90 days after the expiration. After regaining a valid student visa, you can continue to go to school. Whether the visa extension can be successfully obtained is related to the student’s performance during the additional study period.
- Try to keep studying full-time as much as possible, and go to school seriously.
- There is a formal and valid certificate of study or admission letter issued by the school.
Restoration Status as Student
If your Canadian student visa has expired and you did not apply for an extension before it expired, if you want to stay in Canada to continue your studies, you must apply for restoration of status within 90 days after the expiration. You cannot continue to go to school during the process of restoring your status, and you can only continue to study until you obtain a new student visa.
If you have not applied for restoration of status for more than 90 days, you must immediately leave Canada and return to your country of nationality to reapply for a student visa. After obtaining a valid visa, you can return to Canada to continue your studies.
